Ira Gershwin was a gifted and prolific songwriter, the first lyricist to win the Pulitzer Prize (for Of Thee I Sing in 1932), and a collaborator with such musical luminaries as Jerome Kern, Kurt Weill, Harold Arlen, Arthur Schwartz, and, of course, his brother, George Gershwin. This collection of lyrics includes favorites such as "Oh, Lady, Be Good!," "Embraceable You," "They Can't Take That Away from Me," and "Someone to Watch Over Me," and each song is accompanied by a brief introduction with the title of the program from which the song originated, the original singers, stage direction, and other important notes.
